You can always stay at the number one golf destination, Myrtle Beach or the friendliest city in the US, Charleston. The Sanctuary Hotel at Kiawah Island in Charleston is a five star hotel and there are a number of golf courses that are worth playing: The Ocean Course (Ryder Cup, Sr PGA Championships, PGA Championships, World Cup, all played there), Turtle Point, and Cougar Point.
Hilton Head is about and hour and a half from Charleston and there a number of plantation resorts there with many hotel options and a number of great golf courses. June, July and August are the hottest times of the year in South Carolina where the heat index exceed 110*. The humidity is a killer. My wife and I moved here (Charleston) from Memphis, TN where the humidity is worse so we are use to it, sorta but it can last into September. If you type into your search engine on your computer the city you might be interested and golf courses it should bring up every golf course in the area. GolfNow.com will list deals available daily and can save you a few bucks. There are a lot of private courses in the area that a really nice but unless you or your know someone, you know how that goes. Mt Pleasant is across the river from Charleston and the hotel rates could save you a few dollars and there are a few public courses there. The restaurants in Mt Pleasant is wonderful. My wife and I have enjoyed our trips to Pawleys Island. It is just south of Myrtle Beach and the pace seems a little slower and more relaxed. Plenty of great golf at all price ranges with condos/hotels available for good rates. Later in August may be a tad better heat-wise but it can still be hot/humid as Chuck above noted. C'mon over and enjoy your stay!

The Inn at Palmetto Bluff has all you need - golf, spa, restaurants, etc. You won't be disappointed, but it is expensive.

I would recommend a trip to Hilton Head. Sea Pines is an awesome resort and Harbor Town is a must play.
