Headed down to H-town for a few days next week and looking to play a couple of rounds....BlackHorse in Cypress is definitely on the list, any other recommendations?

Yep...Houston in August, it's gonna be hot!

    Thanks!

Do you have any country club hook ups?

Houston's Champions Golf Club is awesome if you can get on

    Give Tour 18 a shot. That's a fun course!
  4. It's a little north, and I hope I'm not too late, but Raven Nest Golf Course in Huntsville, TX is awesome. About an hour 15 from Houston, but (I may be strongly biased as a college student in Huntsville) the quality for money is fantastic. I know if you're a student it's $25 for a round of 18, and don't think it's much over $35 for general public with a cart. Public course but very well maintained. Can't recommend highly enough if you're ok with the drive.

Thanks for the suggestions...played Cinco Ranch near Katy on Monday. Good course, nothing great about it though. Headed out to play somewhere near Lake Conroe today.

If y'all have read my post about traveling to Houston, here's the whole story: I wasn't visiting for a golf trip, I was visiting to see about planting a church there. I am finishing my final year of seminary and have felt a calling to serve God in Houston. I spent 10 days in the area, thankfully getting to play golf twice, and fell in love with it. My heart is heavy for the people there, I have been praying for them constantly. If you are so inclined, please pray along with me. The complete devastation may not be known for a long time but I know help will be needed for a long time to come.

Thanks for reading. Please pray for Houston and all of southeast Texas.

Resurrecting this post, as I'm headed back to Houston later this week...

I'll be staying in the Heights and am looking at a few options. Any new suggestions?

Try Cypresswood, to the north of Bush Intercontinental airport. Two 18's, each quite different. Another option, if you are still looking for public play is Woodforest Golf Club, north of FM 1488 on Fish Creek Thoroughfare. 27 holes with fast greens. Normally in very good condition. Both of these options are a bit higher priced than some, but will provide you good challenges.

You should try Memorial Park especially since you are staying in the Heights. It was built in 1936 and hosts the City Am and Senior City Am. It is the premier muni in Houston and plenty of players walk it. Their posted weekday rate is $30 plus $18 for a cart. It is not available this Friday through Sunday as the Senior City Am is being held. It will also undergo significant renovations over the next 2-3 years as the plans are to move the Houston Open from The Golf Club of Texas to Memorial Park.

How much do you want to spend and how far are you willing to drive?

My buddy in Houston suggested we play Memorial Park. I think thats where we'll end up for at least one round. Hopefully we can get a second round in. I'd like to play Tour 18, but keep hearing about how busy and crowded it gets.

I agree with pulplvr. Try either Cypresswood Tradition (the Tradition is nicer than the Cypress course and has hosted some pro events) or Woodforest (originally this was a Steve Elkins course and they take very good care of the course). I am not a fan of Tour 18 since the holes don't really 'flow together'.

Glad to hear you are considering moving here. Lots of courses and many are accessible to the public.
