  1. Hi all,

I am travellling from the Uk with my family to San Diego/ Palm Springs in July/August - yes I know it will be hot!. I’m bringing my clubs and have arranged fittings at TPI and at Scotty Cameron.

My question is, would anyone be able to recommend a place to play during the week. I will have my clubs with me. I would like to play at Torrey and plan to ring and see if I can get a tee time, but as a Plan B can anyone recommend a good public course, preferably somewhere by the coast?

    Many thanks for any help.

    Robert

If you are staying in Palm Springs, all the courses there are great and summer rates are real cheap. I always go down there and play PGA West in the summer. Try to play early mornings to beat the heat. Torrey North and South are the only public courses actually on the coast. You can get a glimpse of the ocean from a few others. La Costa and Aviara are the two that host/have hosted tour events. Maderas, Arrowood, Crossings at Carlsbad, The Grand, Twin Oaks, Rancho Bernardo Inn. Goat Hill Park or Balboa for the history. Hope you have a great trip.

Coronado GC has bay views and is close to The Hotel Del Coronado, the best Sunday brunch going.

La Quinta is a great family resort with 5/6 courses to play.

If you're planning fitting at the Cameron Gallery, book your time now as they fill up fast!

Encinitas Ranch is closest to the Gallery as well!

Coranado was awesome, lots of water. Torrey is pricey but worth it. Riverwalk near mission valley mall is super friendly with tons of holes and right off the trolley. Have a blast in 72 and sunny!

I enjoyed Aviara and thought it was worth the cost. Better golf course than Torrey, just not as famous or on the ocean. The Crossings was fun as well.

Palm Springs: PGA West Stadium, Indian Wells Celebrity, Desert Willow Firecliff. I was dissapointed by the La Quinta dunes and mountain courses. Silverrock was good. Quirky back 9 now. Escena is good near the airport.

Yea, we were not impressed with it. Think they made some room for a hotel and the course suffered. It's still solid but just quirky on the back now and some things are forced. The 11th is the dumbest par 3 in golf.
