  1. Greetings Team Titleist,

My name is Miles Mick and by no means am I a professional golfer, but I am 29 years old and play to about a 10 handicap, I have played golf since I was 5. I am writing as I am a recent member of Team Titleist and wanted to share a great golf experience. Last week (04/08/2019) I was afforded the opportunity to play Trump International Golf Club at Doonbeg in Ireland. While I may not play to a superior level like some, I play to a level I can keep up with most; with constant aspirations to better my game. The entire experience at Doonbeg from the moment I arrived on the grounds was classic Links style golf, with a supreme aura. As I stepped onto the first tee, I looked out on the fairway and was enveloped from the southeastern wind at my back. Look to the left the tied was out leaving a huge sandy beach. I stepped up and tee off landing just right of the fairway. After a great approach shot with my 704CB 6iron landing just on a hill behind the green funneling the ball back towards the hole, and a putt for par with my Studio Select Laguna 2 began this adventure. The green of the fairways and the long waving yellowed tips of the high grass in the dunes with the beach in the distance and Irish country side to the east. We continued onto hole after hole of pure picturesque snap shots of golf holes that wind through the dunes. I began to warm up in the 48F and 17 mph wind and shedding some layers, we reached number 10 making our way back towards the club house that is prominently staged in the distance behind the tee. As I stepped up to the tee and played my shot, the wind moved my ball right landing in a bunker with a wall higher than my head. I can just see the top of the flag stick, I remembered back to the first hole telling my forecaddie Tim I wanted to try and hit out of a bunker just like this. As I put all my weight on my front foot and swing down on the shot. The ball popped up and had about 3 inches to spare of height, I made it out but do consider myself a pretty good bunker player. I was unable to see just how close the ball rolled next to the pin, but the excited yells from brother in laws tells me it was close. We continued onto more sights and walking through the green carpet trails to next holes. Number 13 on my score card due to hole 6 being closed was the 126 yard par 3; tee shot pictured below. Forecaddie Tim suggested playing as about 101yards, I take out the trusty 58 degree wedge but don’t quite have enough to make the green; a chip up to 3 feet we move to the next hole. The wind has shifted slightly and is now more eastern, we approach hole 14, my tee shot pretty as it began got held up in the wind not allowing my natural draw to bring the ball back. I am forced to find my ball in the dunes just before it has fallen into the gulley. My Father in Law watched as I pulled off a brilliant pitching wedge shot landing the ball on the green. That is a moment any golfer can appreciate, recovering from an errant tee shot in tall grassy conditions to landing nearly pin high from with 17mph wind; its what keeps me coming back for more, and showing your father in law what you can do is fun too. A nice low fade into the fairway of 18 keeping the ball below the wind to set up a great approach shot for a par finish. I went around Doonbeg and played pretty well, and while I will not divulge my score for now. I will say this was one of the toughest golf experiences I’ve ever had and I thought I made out fairly well. A chicken dinner and a pint of cold Heineken finished the day. I will always reminisce on each shot I took, good and bad, remembering the whole day as my Greatest Golf Experience.

    Best, M.Mick

  4. Awesome story MMick! I would love to play that course as well! We plan to take a trip that way in the future and it’s on my list of to-do’s!
  5. Thoroughly enjoyed this read... my only criticism: You gotta drink Guinness in Ireland! That's "mothers milk" my man! Hoping to golf in Europe one day.

Ireland is a wonderful country to visit and to play golf. Glad you enjoyed the visit and your trip sounds awesome. Guinness and Jameson's, need I say more. We did five days over there a few years ago (Ballybunion Golf Club, Cean Sibeal (Dingle Bay), Dooks Golf Club, Waterville Golf Club, and Killarney Golf and Fishing Club. We stayed at a B&B in Killarney. Loved those Irish breakfasts, which seemed to stay with you all day. We went on a tour and got to enjoy a lot of the local sites as well. Who really cares about the score when you get the opportunity to play links golf in Ireland. Thanks for sharing your experience.
