SM8 shafts, feel, and ball flight issues

  1. I ordered 3 sm8s to replace my sm7 and sm6s from my club through our titleist rep. Same loft, lie, bounce, swing-weight, grips, and shafts. They felt very odd immediately to me right out of the box. I put them next to my old ones and noticed the shafts stepping (dg s400) roughly a 1/4" or perhaps 1/2" further towards the grip end of the club. I also put them up next to some stock wedges in the shop and the same thing as far as the stepping being further from the club head. In addition to that they feel noticeably heavy to me compared to my previous vokeys. I took them out on the course and they go super high and are tough for me to flight down, especially the 50* gap wedge. I have never had issues with trajectory control before. i've had 5 sets of vokeys going back to the 200 series all with either the stock shafts or s400s.

Could the shaft issue be a mistake that is causing the high ball flight and/or do the sm8s go higher than previous models? Could the order have been mixed up with another where someone wanted higher swing weights and soft stepped shafts? (would that account for the stepping being the way it is?)

Two of the clubs arrived without shaft bands and one shaft band was half off but did say s400. Which doesn't really bother me but seems odd as well.

I'd attribute it to fresh grooves combined with a completely redesigned club head. The SM8 does look and perform differently, but I believe they are a much better overall club than previous models.

I'd either send them back to Titleist for repair/replacement, or get them in the hands of a reputable PGA golf club repair technician for inspection. I for sure would not be happy if labels were missing on custom ordered shafts. Titleist will make it right for you, but in the current backlog of orders it may take some valuable time.

Yup, I would definitely ask the pro shop where you ordered them about it as a starting point where they would have a copy of the order to build your wedges.

It does sound like a mix up order.

    Good luck.
