There's an old axiom in golf that says 'When you can putt the ball, putt it. When you can't putt it, chip it. And when you can't chip it, pitch it." The idea behind this advice is that it's easier to roll the ball close to the hole than it is to fly the ball close.
The less frequently you're able to play, the more helpful this idea can be. Unless you're working on your pitching and lob shots every day, the higher percentage play is usually your best bet.
