    Hey everyone -

We're about to have a fantastic weekend in New England and there's plenty of buzz at the office about playing golf.

Getting 18 or 36 holes in over the weekend is always a win in my book, but I wanted to know, what are your favorite games to play on the golf course? One that I always enjoy (for team bragging rights, of course) is your simple four ball match.

Have fun out there this weekend!

I can only imagine the excitement in your office- what a fun topic! The games are always fun in golf. This weekend our weather in the high desert will be a very a very comfortable high 79 for our Saturday round and then a high of 88 down the lower desert for the Sunday round. These two great days will guarantee the two different groups I'll be with are going to be too excited and I'm sure we'll be playing multiple games in the morning and afternoon round in a day. :-) I'm sure our regular games are similar with others, but in our matches, we play each other individually a front back and tot. We'll also do a team match and change partners each 6 holes. It's very funny to hear the guy who just recently loved you for 6 holes as a partner now talk a little different about you in the next twelve. LOL But no one gets hurt and it's all usually in for drinks- so yeah bragging rights is all.

Wolf is always fun, because it takes a lot of strategy to come out ahead!

Hey Abby L. My crew and I have put in a full week at the course this week. So much to do come spring. It all pays off in a few short weeks. We are just down the coast a bit here in southern N.J. The weather looks great. I like the simple 4 ball matches as well. Even for a buck, the bragging rights is what is the best. Hope you have a great weekend!
    Play Well,

After 39 degrees last Saturday, heading out tomorrow with 3 co-workers in short sleeves tomorrow. We get together about once a month, for the last 5 years. Will be a great round to enjoy our first real weather break with our first outing of the year. Playing the home course for the American Family Champions tour. Excited - uh-huh.

Me and my buds play a game called pig and wolf. On the first hole someone flips a tee to decide who tees of first and then second and so on. The person who tees of first waits tell everyone to tees off and chooses the person they would like to partner with for that hole. Then the person who teed of first and his partner try to beat the other two players in best ball. On the next hole, whoever teed of second on the first hole tees off first and the whole process starts over. Each time a 2 man team wins a hole each player gets a point. Whichever player with the most points wins at the end
  7. Our foursome often plays "wolf." Here are the general rules:

Player 1 in the lineup makes a stroke from the tee on the first hole. The first person to play on each hole is known as "the wolf". Player 2 then makes their first stroke. At this point Player 1 must make a decision of either choosing Player 2 as a partner or not (sometimes called Pick or Pass). The decision must be made before Player 3 makes their first stroke as Player 1 can then not go back and choose Player 2. If Player 2 has been passed over, Player 3 must be chosen similarly before Player 4 makes their first stroke. If Player 3 has been passed over, Player 4 must be chosen before all the players leave the tee box vicinity. If Player 1 has chosen a partner, they will play as a partnership against the other two players. If Player 1 has not chosen a partner, Player 1 is a "lone wolf" against the other three players.

The outright lowest net stroke score on a hole wins points for that player and their partners if any. There are no points awarded in case of a tie, and no carryover to the next hole. If the play is two versus two: the winning partnership is awarded 1 point to each player. If the play is one versus three: a winning partnership is awarded 1 point to each player, or the winning lone wolf individual is awarded 3 points.

On the second hole, the order of play remains the same, however Player 2 becomes the first to tee off as the wolf and have opportunity to choose a partner from Player 3, 4, and 1, or be a lone wolf. This process of keeping the lineup while rotating the first starting player honors continues until all have had two opportunities at the wolf position (through the 8th hole) The player with the lowest number of points after the 8th hole is given honors and made the wolf for the 9th hole (still keep the lineup order). If there is a tie for lowest number of points, a random choice for the wolf is made (eg: spin a tee). If the game ends at 9 holes, the player with the most points is the winner. If playing for 18 holes, the rotation and lineup continues through the 17th hole and a similar process of choosing the wolf player for the 18th hole is made based on the lowest number of points through the 17th hole.

May sounds like a lot, but it's actually really fun.

    Enjoy!

Two player teams where team selects scores for 30 out of 36 teams. Make the choice at time of completing the hole. Makes each team manage their scores so they don't get stuck with a high score on a late blow up hole. Don't know if that game has a name, but we call it Score 30.

I like to play a game where whoever won the previous hole gets to pick where to tee off on the next hole. This is good for when I want to just go out and have fun and not worry about score for a day.

The group I play with Mondays and Tuesdays plays simple net skins and greenies. We do not give any strokes on the par 3s, though, since we have participants playing from different tees and this evens those holes out a bit for everyone. Over time, no one really loses very much and everyone has good chances to win something.

We have between 12 and 20 guys show up every week all through in $5 and play for skins and greenies. Spreads the pot around a little. Sometimes we draw for teams do a total on each hole and do team skins. All in good fun no serious money
that way no one gets their feelings hurt.

We like to play a 4 ball match but switch up partners every three holes. That way everyone gets to play with and against everyone else. Each hole is worth 2 points. We usually do "bragging rights" for front, back and overall.

    Guys, this sounds great!

We've never done it this way- we've only done an every 6 hole change of partners and there is no front back and total.

Could you please share how it's done. We'd like to try this- sounds like a lot of fun!

    Thanks.

Wolf has never been a game I really care much for. Do not get into handicap matches because of the discrepancies in handicaps and will not generally play for money with folks I am not familiar with. I play in a men's league on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and we play a point system and closest to the pin. The committee keeps up with the points to avoid cheating but there are those who know how to regulate their points. Inside those matches, we have regular group that plays a simple skins match and an additional skin for closest to the pin on par threes. One tie on the hole, all tie and no skins for birdies or trash. More of a fun game and while our handicaps vary, no one gets hurt.

There's so much action we need to bring along an accountant lol! Wolf, Vegas and snips with a deuce pot is the base bet, plus any number of junk bets on the side. Keeps it interesting for sure!

I play with a large group and we may have as many as 20 players. Four man teams are chosen by the random ball throw method. The best two balls per hole against the other teams best two balls. Players play at 80% of their handicap and if there is an odd number say a four man team playing a 3 man team, the 3 man team gets to play at 110% of their handicap to help level the playing field. The players all range from scratch to a 20 handicap and there is nothing like having a high handicap player on your team get hot. We play for a couple of bucks and I guarantee by the end of the year the winning and loosing all comes out even. We also have a big Christmas party and bring the wives and have live music and great food. The camaraderie is tremendous and this really makes golf the greatest game.

We play a weekly 4ball match, switching partners each week. Within the 4 ball match is an individual skins match. Throw in the "Rabbit" for added fun at $10. A player who 3 putts carries the Rabbit until another player 3 putts. The player left holding the Rabbit on 18 pays the other 3.

We also pay $10 per player into a Kitty for an end of season dinner...

We play a game similar to wolf but we call it captain and it can be played with 4 or 5 players (our course allows 5somes if you all have carts). The difference is how you score...the captain picks his partner and it's 2vs3 for the hole and it's scored as a total. As an example: on a par 4 hole the captain's team gets par and bogey their total is 45, but the other team gets bogey bogey which is 55...the captain team gets 10 dots or points. We play for 10 cents per dot. It gets real interesting when someone gets a birdie because it flips the other team. If the second group went 3 (birdie) 5, they would flip the captain team so the high score was the first digit. In this case, they would go to a 54 Instead of a 45 and they would have lost 19 dots. When you throw in a couple birdies and a few presses, it gets real interesting. Obviously everyone plays with their handicaps and gets strokes on their handicap holes to ensure that we can play with golfers of all levels. Some groups end up with 2-3 handicap golfers playing against 18 handicappers. There are a few more minor rules and if anyone is interested, I can post the entire game. It really is a lot of fun.
  22. We have been player Poker lately. Each person is awarded a card out of a full deck (52) for each individual achievements. Depending on your skill level you can change the rules on how cards are awarded but you can do anything from birdies to a GIR is one card and award eagles with two cards. For higher handicaps you can make it pars and fairway drives. The top card on the deck is given out in the order of achievement. Best hand wins at the end of the day. Obviously the more cards you have the better chances of winning. You can start everyone off with two or three cards if need be.

Here's a game we play that hasn't been mentioned. It may be called Hogger, but I have no idea if that is the name or not. It is a lot of fun with the right group of guys.

Two person teams play full handicap against each other with four points available on each hole: Low individual net, low team net, high individual net (Gives the other team a point!), and the Hogger (A bonus point awarded only if one team gets all three of the other points.) Points are worth whatever you decide. There are no carryovers.

What makes the game really fun is the Air Press, which automatically doubles the points for that hole.

The Air Press works this way: When a team is two, or more, points behind they have the option to press while an opponents tee ball is in the air. The press has to be declared after the opponents ball is struck, but before it lands. It can be either opponent. Of course it is best to have the honor so your team knows your shots are safe BEFORE the air press, but it's not essential. It can become very strategic. I have seen some big margins disappear very quickly with Air Pressing.
