Hey Carl T, I have to agree with you on the wind. My course is about 2 miles from the Beach Haven inlet. If the wind is coming off the ocean or bay, it might be a long day. A south-west wind may bring the bugs. Doesn't matter. I would rather be on a golf course with a little wind then anywhere else.

That is easy! I dislike slow play the most!! .... but greens that are slow is a close second!!

I have to agree with Chris.. Slow play is by far the FIRST dislike.. Second would be cold weather under 30.. haha...

Carl, I like your notion ideal golf game. I don't mind some wind, it makes the game a little more interesting. Rain, I just don't care to play in the rain even though I have good FootJoy rain gear.

My ideal game is on mostly flat terrain, teeing grounds that are pool table flat, large lightening fast greens, hazards bring them on, plenty of dog legs left, I'm a dew sweeper I like an early start.

I hate when the course is wet and muddy. Wind I can adjust to but my feet sliding and mud flying in my face. No sir

Interesting topic for discussion :). I would have to say that I really do not like being paired with a player (whom the pro shop pairs you with) that talks throughout the round, attempting to give swing pointers (. . . your right knee moved a bit on takeaway, you came a bit over the top, you have a strong grip, the key is to focus on a dimple, etc...).

This is especially true when you know that you are a better golfer than the other person , either with a more sound swing or score, or as is often times, both!

It's one thing when sharing pointers about a course that you are not familiar with, a completely different "beast" when you are dealing with unwanted "coaching". Anyway, that's my dislike. I hope it doesn't sound too harsh! :)

Carl I totally agree with your scenario , my major gripe is slow play . I live in France & its quite regular to play 5.30-6 hour competition rounds . Its a good job it doesn't go dark until until late in summer, all that shaking hands and kissing people you haven't seen for a while can be tiring.

My number one issue when playing is SLOW PLAY! The problem with slow play is that there are so many reasons why it occurs (over booking, groups playing wrong tees for their skill, not playing ready golf, and the list goes on....), and you never know when you will encounter it. I can deal with poor course conditions & poor weather, especially if I knew what to expect and go out anyway.

Hands down....nothing gets my goat more than slow play. I have walked off numerous golf courses after 5, 6 holes. Waiting 25 minutes to play a hole is no fun. Wind is just another challenge to improve your game using different shots and strategies. Wind is what makes a golfer a player.

What I dislike the most is at the beginning of the season where there is a temporary green or greens and they do not open them for several weeks!!!!!

Great question; really got me thinking about it. I can live with the physical stuff (wind, rain, mud, bugs, etc.) as the cost of doing business, but the softer/human side of things tend to annoy me. Having to include just one, I'd have to say lack of etiquette because anyone can observe it no matter the course or the skill level. Something so basic is often uncommon.

I don't mind wind, but here lately it seems to be howling winds, but they only start when I get to the course. Lol. Slow play is a bummer, especially if they don't know proper course etiquette and at least let you play through. I was slow when I was first learning the game so I will give those guys some sympathy. But of course, a bad at the golf course is better than a good day at work...

-playing multiple balls on a busy day
-people who drag their feet on the greens
-folks who don't rake the bunkers or fix their divots
-a course marshal telling our group to pick up the pace when our next shot will be hitting into the group in front of us.

Wind and rain are not fun to play in. I'm also not a big fan of temps below the 60's.

Nothing - I'll take golf any day over office work...no matter how bad the golf is.

Mine would have to be the human errors.
-slow play is by far number one.
-not fixing divots is a very close second.

I love everything about the game... wind can make some holes pretty tough, especially at my home course that has a lot of elevation changes, but that makes you better..eventually.

My major thing is people taking so many darn practice swings when they are not great golfers. I mean really, do you think your shot will be any better with 5 swings before each shot? Envision what you want the ball to do, take a slow swing picturing it, and hit!

I think I'm a pretty good golfer, or at least I hit a ton of great shots (intermixed with some not great ones). I've learned that practice swings get into my head AND take more energy. If it's an odd and tricky shot, I may take a swing or two, but almost always, I step up and hit.

It's draining for me to watch someone take 5 swings and chunk or think it anyway.

But, did I mention I LOVE this game? One of my best rounds last year, I played alone, stepped up and hit... finished in 2:15. It was great!

Slow play is my biggest issue while playing. Playing a round of golf under 4 hours and not having to sit and wait on the tee box or fairway is a great scenario. This way you can get a good groove going and just focus on hitting golf shots instead of having to be upset because your having to sit and wait forever.

I never like focusing on the negative, so I will accentuate the positive. The best thing I love about golf are the people I love playing with. You can imagine what I hate the most....

Playing with dudes who think they are on the tour! We aren't on the tour on a weekend member game, relax!
