Lately it seems like everyone has music playing on the course and as long as it's not blasting, I'm okay with it.
  2. Not a fan of the music on the course. I don't mind if others want it and keep it at a low volume, I don't want to hear it. Unfortunately, it is becoming more common and I think a lot of the people playing it don't care if it bothers you. Their only concern is what they want.

I'm a huge fan of music on the course. I think it lightens the mood and blocks out other distractions (Like a mower starting or a car door slamming). The little Bose speaker I have is great. It's waterproof and loud enough to hear, but the sound doesn't travel too far, so if you're on the other side of the fairway- let alone the other side of the course- you won't hear it.
Type of music is key too. I love to listen to classic rock and upbeat music. I also like to listen to reggae and even (gasp!) rap. But if someone is playing country I'd rather listen to a baby scream. It's just my opinion- lots of people like it, but it's just not for me.
That said, I look at music like smoking a cigar. If everyone is cool with it, do it up, but do it respectfully and make sure it doesn't bother anyone else. If someone would rather not, then we'll keep the speaker off.
  4. for me, no music, it distracts me from the game.
  5. I love music. I'm a musician. But I just think it's rude. Other people can hear it, and not everyone likes the same music. A lot of people really enjoy the quiet side of the sport, communing with nature. As much as I love music, I don't feel I have the right to change everyone's experience around me.

...and just because you ask someone "are you ok with the music", that doesn't make it ok. Who is going to say "Yes, it bothers me"? Most people will say "No" but in reality it does bother them to some degree.

The reality, however, is it's probably not going away, so have to get used to it. Many people argue that we need to "change with the times" to grow the game. I guess we'll see if music on the course makes a difference or not, I am guessing no.

It absolutely makes it okay... If you're going to spend 4-5 hours with someone it's best to be forthright about your preferences.

As someone who likes music, I can attest that people will say "I'd rather not" or "yes, music bothers me." If someone asks me I say "sure, as long as it's not country."

If someone asks if you're okay with something, and you say yes, they're going to do it. They're asking you because they don't want to be rude. If they didn't care, they wouldn't ask.

music is great when you're out for a fun, laid-back round with your buddies. If you're playing a serious round the music is better not played

No music thank you. I agree with Norman. Love music, got 4000+ songs on my Ipod, and love it all day. But not on the golf course. A place for everything and everything in its place. I do think it's rude because it effects other people. And asking if it bothers you is like asking if the smoke bothers you when someone is puffing away. Do everything you love out anywhere as long as it isn't impacting anyone else. You want music, all the power too you, put in your earbuds please and have at it.

I despise people blaring their music on the course. Can’t tell you how many times I’m about to hit and “More than a feeling” by Kansas comes blaring from a cart. It’s rudiculous. Wear ear buds or have it at a level that can only be heard if you are in your cart.

Too many tastes in music. My buddy broke out a speaker during a round and started cranking out Bon Jovi. It was loud and distracting and caused me to ask him to ditch the music. I look at music the way I look at cell phones on the course, no thanks.

No music! I’m only 38 so not an old guy as some would use as the reason not to like it.
It’s golf, you can listen to music in car, at home, at your work, etc etc
Golf is golf and should be enjoyed as such. Now if you want to listen and EVERYBODY in your group is wanting to listen then fine. If you do listen PLEASE turn it down when coming up to other groups so they are not bothered by this. Nothing worse then being in the tee and a group behind you on the green come up and have music blasting away without any regard for those around you. Respect people!
  13. No music! I love to think clearly with just the sounds of the Forest!

    No music for me.
  15. Not overly crazy about it on the course.....but I love to drown out the banter on the practice range with chill music (Bonobo), Reggae, or Southern Rock playing through earbuds. Go figure.

I enjoy music on the range and around the clubhouse.
On the course the sounds of golf are more to my liking.

I only have music during putting practice. Sometimes with wedges but never on full shots on the range. I want to hear the sound of the ball when it comes off the face. Also when swinging I don't like having a headset on.

I can say, I never like it before this year, but the tunes have grown on me. I can't say that everyone in the group of guys I play with enjoy it, so I have to be aware of who does or doesn't, but short answer, I am getting used to it, and have to say I enjoy it too!
  21. Played a resort course in Spain during the year and over part of the course you could hear the outdoor Zumba class music and accompanying "instruction".... and, boy, it was loud!! You could probably hear it in Portugal!
It might have inspired the Zumba brigade but it did nothing for the golf.

I'll have my bluetooth headphones in on the range, to block out other noise, but not when playing. Most of the group I play with would prefer not to listen to what I like.
