Taking a boys trip to Orlando next year. Haven’t flown with my clubs in a long time. Is it necessary to get a hard shell case for my clubs or are the soft style travel cases adequate for flights? I’m sure TSA isn’t easy on them. Thanks

If you travel with a soft case, a suggestion would be to remove the heads from your driver and other clubs to prevent broken shafts.
You should not have any trouble with a hard shell case but you have to get it into the rental car which can be problematic depending on the car you rent.

Flew with my clubs for the first time to the TTI in Scottsdale. I did plenty of research. As stated, If you use a soft bag, remove the heads on your woods and hybrids. I put mine in my carry on. Also use a stiff arm in your bag to take up the extra space. I put the rain hood on and stuffed my towels around the irons also. the Club Glove Collegiate bag sold here on the website is what I used. No issues at all with my Players 4 Stadry bag.

Have used a hard case for many years flying all over the world. Mine meets Deltas dimensions for luggage and I pay $40 second piece. Mine is 47" long and if the back seat folds down you can fit it in most rental sedans. SKB, Standard ATA Golf Travel Case, $299.99. Awesome customer service. I have a Cart 14 bag and it fits perfectly in the hard case. I have to take the head off my driver because it is too long.

You might also check your airline's policy. Some will not cover damage that occurs in a soft case so you might want supplemental insurance if that is their policy. Multiple connections give them more opportunity for damage than direct flights so that might also be a consideration.

Haven’t booked flights yet but I will definitely check with them now, thank you!

Remember the adage “Buy once cry once”. Invest in the hard case and don’t worry about it. I typically fly SWA and they will only insure against damage if the clubs are in a hard case. I have a small Carbon 4 bag and can get it, a pair of shoes and some hats/towels & rain gear in the small SKB case. It’s worth it to me for the peace of mind.
  9. Never had an issue with a soft travel bag. Suggest getting the extension tree which extends just past your driver heads and then wrapping the upper portion with a pillow. Been flying with my Titleist for 15 plus years and never had an issue. Happy traveling.

Only issue I’ve ever had is the way TSA rummages through you bad and does not care to return the clubs or packing they way I had it. They just toss the contents and rudely throw it back together.
